Litigation
experience in the U.S. Coast Guard on government contracts, oil spill
cleanups, administrative law concerning marine safety regulations, and
fisheries laws including forfeiture actions against over twenty foreign
flag vessels. Government contracts included claims on all new facilities
built as part of the support by the Coast Guard for the Trans-Alaska
Pipeline.
Private
practice involves extensive litigation experience defending tort claims
against architects, engineers, real estate brokers, and other professionals.
Defense work includes defense of products liability and negligence claims
for both personal injury and property damage. Defense work includes
a speciality of fire litigation with involvement in many of the major
fire losses in Alaska since 1982 throughout Alaska. Fire experience includes both
structure fires and wild fires. Additional experience
on negligence claims includes trial experience in both state and federal
court including declaratory judgment actions for various insurers, concerning insurance coverage.
Private
practice includes extensive dealing with coverage questions for various
insurers on all types of insurance policies. This has involved coverage
opinions, defense of bad faith actions, defense and prosecution of primary-excess
litigation between insurers, and defense of insurance disputes which
spin off from adverse trial results by others.
